“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11-28-29 NIV
We do not typically associate a yoke, used to harness horses or oxen together for the purpose of work, as providing a source of rest or freedom from burden bearing. But God’s ways are not man’s ways.
The Lord knows that not every yoke is kind and some are even cruel, requiring His delivering power to set the captives free.
Thus Jesus issues this liberating invitation to come to Him with the things that are weighing us down and to be yoked with Him, our burden bearer, that He might shoulder them for us.
