I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
Another person came into my world today. She didn’t ask permission, just wiggled and squirmed her way into my heart. She’s beautiful to behold, what grand baby isn’t? With little eyes that squint at you from a soft pink round face and tufts of hair still drying from nine months floating in her mommy’s womb. I am so proud of my daughter and the godly man she married whose child she is, and royal parents such a little princess certainly deserves.
But who is this angelic gift who will forever change all our lives? And what grand plans does her Maker have in mind for her?
She joins a growing clan of five others just like her who continually keep a grandpa’s heart ringing with joy and laughter. And yet already it is as though she has always been there, occupying no less space despite her diminutive stature.
I study her and stand amazed that bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh is she. And I cannot help but smile as I muse that this precious little creature is actually one quarter me. It moves me to prayer that she inherits the best her lineage has to offer. And may she be delivered from its unredeemed strains and the curses of the generations that have preceded her.
And then I begin to dream of whom she will become and my smile breaks into laughter. May she grow to be a mighty woman of God like Miriam who will dance and sing unashamedly before the Lord. May He give her the wisdom of Deborah and the courage of Jael to lead His people to victory. May she be an intercessor like Abigail and Esther who can sway the hearts of kings.
And I pray that like Ruth she will find her Boaz and like Hannah she will dedicate her children to the Lord. Make her a woman of the Word like Priscilla and give her the prophetic anointing of Philip’s four daughters. And while you’re at it, Lord bless her in business like Lydia and make her beloved by all she serves like Tabitha.
And most importantly Lord, may she be like Mary who sits at your feet and will always choose the better part.
